“stand by to ship oars”
the oars should be arranged with blades along the gunwale so that the aftermost blade is just over the transom and the foremost handle is by the foremost oarsman

oars go out in order from bow to stern grasps handle of of their oar with 2 hands
command out oarsman pulls their oar back across the gig returning to the original seated position.

the reverse of pulling moving the gig astern pushed away from the oarsmen
