What is one factor that has helped support Elite success
Funding from the national lottery
Explain development routes from talent identification through to elite success
1) Identification:
- (Talent ID): looking for signs of brilliance (scouting); Looking for bio mechanical makeup and skill set
- further tests after selection (psychological tests, components of fitness, health tests)
- 6-12 month programme (access to facilities and coaching)
2) Support The Lifestyle
- travel, diet and nutrition
3) Support The Coaching
- access to elite level coaching and facilities
4) Offer support through the institutes of UK Sport
- UK sport = National lottery funded organisation, using government funds and national lottery funds to support the success of GB in the Olympics and Paralympics
- Institutes = elite level training bases around the UK (Elite level performers gain access) - examples are Loughborough, Sheffield, Lee Valley
5) World Class Performance Pathway (WCPP)
- Two levels: world class podium / world class podium potential
Explain the role of schools, universities and clubs in contributing to Elite performance
Schools:
- Exposed to Competition
- Compulsory PE lessons (2 hours a week)
- variety of different sports can be tried
- fundamental motor skills are developed
- develop relationships/ link with local clubs
- Qualifications (knowledge about the world of sport, Nutrition, health benefits)
Universities:
- Scholarships (help financially, bursary fund) - TASS
- Access to elite level sporting facilities
- Access to elite level sports coaching
