Oral
Drug is taken by mouth and is absorbed into the bloodstream through stomach or small intestine.
Inhalation
Vapor or gas inhaled through nose or mouth and absorbed into bloodstream through lungs.
Rectal
Drug is in the form of a suppository or liquid and is inserted into the rectum
Sublingual
Drug is place under the tongue and allowed to dissolve in mouth
Topical
Drugs- lotions, creams, ointments, eye drops- applied to a particular area
Transdermal
Drug is absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin,usually by the means of a patch.
Parental
Intradermal: injected within layers of skin
Intramuscular: injected into body of a muscle
Intravenous: injected into vein
Subcutaneous: injected just beneath the skin into subcutaneous layer.
