Q

What is SOA?

A

The start of authority (SOA) record identifies the base DNS information about the domain, for example:

It a collection of information about the domain like
The Route 53 name server that created the SOA record
The email address of the administrator
A refresh time in seconds that secondary DNS servers wait before querying the primary DNS server’s SOA record to check for changes. In the example, this value is 7200.
The minimum time to live (TTL)

etc

Q

What is Failover routing strategy?

A

Here we have an active and a passive setup.

When the active site goes down the request automatically goes to the passive setup.

Q

What is geolocation based routing?

Q

What are Hosted Zones?

A

A hosted zone is a container for records, and records contain information about how you want to route traffic for a specific domain, such as example.com, and its subdomains.

Q

What is the use of Alias record?

A

lets you map your zone apex (example.com) DNS name to the DNS name for your ELB load balancer (such as my-loadbalancer-1234567890.us-west-2.elb.amazonaws.com).

Q

Difference between Authoritative DNS and Recursive DNS Servers?

A

Authoritative DNS contains the final answer to a DNS query, generally an IP address, Clients dont directly talk to Authoritative DNS.
Clients talk to Recursive DNS servers, which identifies the Authoritative DNS server and forwards the query.
