Q
  1. What, if any, information was given to students about how to join the event?
A

As well as the posters, we put up lots of flyers around the campus explaining the rules of the Crown event, and how to sign up. I can produce a copy of the flyer if requested.

Q
  1. You have evidence earlier that the signs you put up warned people against wearing fluoro colours, what does the document say about team colours?
A

Below the image of the crown, in the middle of the flyer, there is a breakdown of the colours of each team. Team Law is fluoro orange, Team Economics is fluoro pink, and Team Geology is fluoro yellow.

Q
  1. You gave evidence before about signs on
campus warning against the possibility of getting
splashed – what does the flyer say about that?
A

It says, “Prepare to get soaked! Needless to say, anyone who is signing up should be aware that they almost certainly will be splashed at some point during the day. You have been warned!”

Q
  1. You just said that part of your role is to make
sure everyone is following the rules, why did you have
    to do that?
A

Well, you see, last year the organisers of the Crown, myself included,
got in trouble because some of the players weren’t very careful about who they threw water balloons at, and some professors were accidentally hit.

Q
  1. What did you wear as a costume?
A

Well, unfortunately, the costume I ordered for this year was something that was a bit awkward to move around in, and it restricted my field of vision. It was one of those inflatable T-rex dinosaur full body costumes.

16
Q
  1. What was she wearing?
A

She was wearing a very bright orange poncho.

17
Q
  1. How do you know Ms Mardani?
A

I don’t know Rana personally but she is famous around the entire university for being the girl who publicly dumped her boyfriend at a university ball last year.

18
Q
  1. What was Ms Mardani doing when you saw her?
A

Because of the poncho, I assumed she was participating in the crown.

19
Q
  1. Why was that?
A

It looked a lot like what some of the law students participating in the game were wearing that morning.

20
Q
  1. What did you do when you saw Ms Mardani?
A

I started to go over to her to tell her that she wasn’t

allowed in the referee area while she was a ‘live’ player in the game.

21
Q
  1. How did Ms Mardani respond?
A

Well, when I got much closer, maybe only a few metres away, I realised that she was in a different shade of
orange and she wasn’t playing the game after all.

22
Q
  1. What, if anything, did you say to her?
A

I didn’t end up stopping Rana or saying anything to her, but in hindsight, I wish I did.

23
Q
  1. Why was that?
A

Because I found out the next day that she had been hit by someone with a water balloon.

24
Q
  1. What did Ms Mardani do when she was hit by the

water balloon?

A

She reported to the university that she had been hit as a non-participant.

25
Q
  1. What happened as a result of her report?
A

I am now in the process of having to write an appeal letter to the Vice-Chancellor of the university to try and overturn the decision to cancel the Triple Crown forever.

26
Q
  1. What are you going to say in your letter?
A

I blame Rana for wearing something that pretty much
looked exactly like what the players in the game were
wearing.

27
Q
  1. Why are you writing an appeal letter?
A

I’m going to tell the university because I’m pretty sure it

will help our case in getting the Triple Crown re-instated next year.
