Rotorcraft Engineering Flashcards
What is systems engineering?
A methodical, disciplined approach for the design, realization, technical management, operations, and retirement of a system. The science of developing an operable system capable of meeting requirements within often opposed constraints.
What are the three sets of common technical processes in the Systems Engineering Engine (SEE) according to the NASA NPR? How are these related?
System Design, Product realization, and Technical Management.
The technical management processes affect both system design and product realization processes. The system Design Process has an output of requirements, and the Product Realization Processes have an output of the realized products.
What is the NASA Project Life Cycle?
It is a cycle that most projects follow, from the concept to the final completion of the project.
0.- Concept Studies
1.- Concept & Technology Development
2.- Preliminary Design & Technology Completion
3.- Final Design & Fabrication
4.- System Assembly, Test, & Launch
5.- Operations & Sustainment
6.- Closeout.
What are Project Life Cycle Reviews?
These verify the progress marked by milestones. They are a step in the process at which the previous work is reviewed.
What are the 2 major Project Life Cycle Reviews and what is their difference?
- Preliminary Design Review (PDR): Verifies technical suitability of the preliminary/Top-Level Design.
-Critical Design Review (CDR): Examines the final design at the end of the development phase.
