Rotator cuff muscles Flashcards
Draw and label rotator cuff muscles
c
Name the 4 rotator cuff muscles
Supraspinatous, infraspinatous, teres minor and subscapularis
Where do the 4 rotator cuff muscles originate
the scapula
Where do the rotator cuff muscles insert
into the greater/lesser tubercles of the humerus
describe the glenhumeral and acromicroclavicular joints
d
Name the other 3 shoulder muscles that aid the rotator cuff muscles
Deltoid, teres major and coracobrachalis
Describe a tear to the rotator cuff muscles
So that thetendon no longer fullt attaches the muscle to the head of the humerus
What rotator cuff muscle is most likely to tear
supraspinatous
How are rotator cuff muscle tears diagnosed
Xray, MRI, Ultrasound
Name non surgical treatment for roator cuff muscle tears
Rest, modify activites, nonsteroidal anti inflams. ie ibruprofen, physio and steroid injection ie. cortisone
Describe some surgical treatment for rotator cuff muscle tears
pain medicaiton ie. NSAIDS, opoids
Imobilisation - slings, no movement for 4-6 weeks
passive exercise to build up muscle strength
What muscles perform medial rotation
Pectoralis major, subscapularis, Lattismus dorsi and teres major
What muscle performs lateral rotation
Infraspinatous, teres minor and supraspinatous
What muscle performs abduction
teres major, supraspinateous, Lattismus dorsi
What muscle performs flexion
pectoralis major and deltoid
