Rotational motion Flashcards
1
Q
Define the centripetal force
A
the resultant force that acts towards the centre to cause circular motion
2
Q
How do you know there is a resultant force during circular motion?
A
direction changes
therefore velocity changes
therefore it is accelerating
therefore there is a resultant force
3
Q
How can you ensure you measure time period accurately?
A
- measure 10T and then divide (reduce percentage uncertainty)
- use a fiducial marker (accurate start and stop)
- measure 3 x 10T (spot anomalies)
4
Q
Define angular speed
A
the rate of change of angular displacement
5
Q
When a car is cornering on horizontal road, what is providing the centripetal force?
A
friction
