Rotation and Revolution Study Guide Flashcards
the act of spinning around an axis; for example, how the Earth spins on its axis.
Rotation
the movement of one object around another; for example, how the Earth travels around the Sun.
Revolution
an imaginary line that an object rotates around; for example, the Earth’s axis runs from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Axis
the force that pulls objects toward each other; for example, gravity keeps us on the ground and pulls objects down.
Gravity
to apply or bring something into use; for example, to exert force means to push or pull with strength.
Exert
the curved path that an object takes as it moves around another object in space; for example, the path the Earth takes around the Sun.
Orbit
an imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres; it is located halfway between the North and South Poles.
