A
Before Austen began to publish her novels under her own name women would publish their work under a mans name or phrases like ‘Written by a Lady’ however when Austen begun to publish in own name it became much more normal

What was expected of Middle Class women
A
Middle class women were expected to develop skills that made then desirable for marriage such as language, music and artistic pursuits while it was expected for a women to read and be up to date on current affairs it was looked down on to be overly intellectual with the term ‘Blue tights’ being used to describe women who where overly educated and spent to much time reading and writing.
