Rope Flashcards

1
Q

Static kernmantle

A
  • core has parallel bundle construction
  • elongation : normally 1% min - 10% max of 10% of rated breaking strength
  • NFPA 1983
  • department uses static
  • 1/2” diameter
  • minimum breaking strength 9000lbs
  • max working load is 600lbs
  • weighs 7lbs per 100 ft
  • we carry 150ft

Q

Dynamic

A
  • core has twisted bundle construction
Used for climbing and training only
  • “tight” weave = better abrasion , harder to tie knots
-“loose” weave = easy knot tying but less abrasion resistance

Q

Nylon webbing

A

Red - used only for class 3 rappelling harness ( Hansen harness )

Blue - utility purposes only

  • construction of continuous nylon fibers woven in a spiral weave to produce tubular shape
  • minimum breaking strength of 4000lbs

Damage to rope

A

Kernmantle:

  • will yellow after 5 hours of 300 degree
  • gets sticky at 445 degree
  • melts at 480 degree
  • water weakens 10-15% but recovers when dry
