Q

What causes External RR?
How do you fix external tooth resorption?

A

Inflammatory lesions (resorption)
Reimplanted teeth (ankylosis)
tumors, cysts, impacted teeth
Excessive occlusal or mechanical forces

Q

How to manage the External RR?

A

Management:
- If the nerve is not affected → Debridement of the external part and filling
- If nerve is affected or it is the cause → Removal of the nerve by Root canal treatment
- or do nothing = Observation

Unclear

Trauma
Caries

Q

Radiographic Features of Internal Root Resorption

A

. In internal resorption, the outline of the canal is often distorted

Widening of root canal
Balloon of root canal

Q

Can a tooth with internal resorption be saved?

A

Restorable = The treatment of choice for IRR is root canal therapy, which removes the blood supply and granulation tissue
Unrestorable ?

Q

How serious is root resorption?
What happens if tooth resorption is left untreated?

A

Whether it’s internal or external, the condition can lead to tooth loss if not treated early

15
Q

What is the prognosis for internal root resorption?

A

If the condition is discovered before the root is perforated, the success rate for root canal therapy is fairly high

16
Q

How bad is root resorption?

A

The process is gradual, but if it goes untreated the root may be lost completely.

17
Q

Does internal root resorption cause pain?

A

Tooth resorption may go unnoticed/ asymptomatic for many years; often the patient is unaware of it because of the lack of symptoms. Pain may be reported if the process is associated with significant pulpal inflammation.
