Root formation Flashcards
Histophysiology:
Substages
a. Initiation
b. Proliferation
c. Morphodifferentiation
d. Histodifferentiation
e. Apposition
f. Root development
Beginning of tooth development as the dental organ forms
Initiation
Controlled cell division of tooth germ components
Proliferation
-where form and shape of crown to be developed is determined by the MEMBRANA PREFORMATIVA
Morphodifferentiation
The former basement membrane (membrane propria) separating the dental papilla from the inner dental epithelium
MEMBRANA PREFOMATIVE
future DEJ
where cells of IDE differentiates into ameloblast and formative cells of dentin aka odontoblast
Histodifferentiation Stage
deposition of enamel, dentin, and cementum
Apposition stage
- Root formation begins by interactions between Hertwig’s epithelial root sheath, and the ectomesenchyma dental papilla, and dental sac.
- Apposition of root dentin and cementum continues after eruption of teeth.
- Root formation completed approx. 2-3 years after tooth erupts
Root development
Clinical Considerations (7 total) 1. Abnormal locations
- teeth develop in abnormal places other than oral cavity, ex: in ovary and hypophysis.
- only few teeth are present in oral cavity. Lack of initiation of teeth
Partial Anodontia
- due to abnormal additional initiation. Most commonly the mesiodens is seen between the maxillary CI.
Supernumerary (single or multiple) or additional teeth
- an atypical dentin that develops due to deficiency of Vitamin A, as a proliferation of mesenchymal cells is disturbed.
Osteodentin
- delayed in persons having hypopituitarism and hypothyroidism
Eruption of teeth
- seen in patients suffering from congenital syphyllis.
- Characterised by a “screw driver” or notched edge of maxillary central incisor.
- Mulberry molars are also seen in patients of syphilis due to disturbed morphodifferentiation.
Eruption of teeth
- Condition in which there are disturbances in synthesis and secretion of organic matrix of enamel
- What are the two main factors?
Enamel Hypoplasia
- Genetic
- Enviornmental
