Where did Bruce’s inspiration come from?
His love for music and nostalgia of the 1960s.
Describe in detail Bruce’s movement style
He used classical and contemporary vocabulary. Makes use of extended lines, of balance tilts/attitudes. Makes use of weight and the floor in lunges whist combining an arabesque from ballet with a spiriling torso from contemporary. His choreo has simplicity contracts with intricate footwork.
Describe the music and the relation it has to 2 sections
Popular sixties group the Rolling Stones. In little red rooster, male executes rooster strut “I am the little red rooster” shows male dominance as only men execute this. In sympathy for the devil the repetitive motif is performed by the male dancers and uses the courteous bows to relate to the lyrics “pleased to meet you”
What does rooster examine and why did Bruce use this theme?
The relationship between men and women from the assumption that the men have an innate advantage, although there are points where the women triumph. He wanted to reflect sexual war as he felt that was prevalent during his teenage years.
Describe the males costumes and why Bruce chose these
Velvet jackets, colourful shirts and co-ordinated ties suggesting Jagger’s dandy phase. There is individuality and variation.
Describe the females standard costumes and why Bruce chose these
Simple chic dresses, with a black and red colour-scheme. The mini skirts relate to the importance of image, women showed more skin, contraceptive pill had more sexual freedom.
