- Elanor was an asset to FDR and they needed each other
- She knew who he really was - unmasked
- Each wanted the approval of the other
- They lived very separate lives
- The president loved warm springs Georgia, and went to suffer with the people
- Roosevelt had rubbed off on America in all the right ways

African American Conditions and FDR Reaction:

- They were ragged, ashamed, and cold, and they couldn’t pay rent
- African Americans had it the worst, and 3/4 still lived in the Jim Crow south
- No money went to them
- Many went north, but found no work
- Booker T. Washington
- FDR had a “Black cabinet” and understood that the world had changed
- AA liked FDR, but lynching continued because he could not make it illegal

WPA and the role of the government:

- WPA changed the landscape, put men to work, and created many useful glorys
- Symphonies, Murals, and books were all created by the WPA
- It documented, persevered, and created
- It was trying to secure national well being

- Although FDR had made a huge difference, things were still bad
- Some people got very mad at FDR, and called him and the new deal terrible
- They were really scared, because the NRA had failed and was called un-c, or something only a dictator could do

- His plan to “share our wealth” was very appealing to the nation

National Labor Relations Board:
A
- The National Labor Relations Board is an independent federal agency that protects the rights of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve their wages and working conditions.
- It was a program to help people whereas SS was more of a fund that created programs

Social Security Act: (SS)
A
- Was very radical, but provided old age insurance and is really important to this day
- Was there to help those in need (impaired ect)
- It redefined what the government owed people, and FDR made it last
- FDR put the limits all together
- The laws like this were like FDR’s 2nd New Deal
