Describe absestos cement tiles?
shape, thickness, when were they banned?
squares or rectangles but can appear polygons. Thickness of 1/8”-1/4” (better quality), variety of colors.

Defects of absestos cement tiles?
-absent shingles
-cracked/damaged shingles, potentially allow friable asbestos
-roof penetration in a valley

3 types of asphalt shingles styles
3-tab strip: least expensive, found on many homes. Flat profile, usually w/ 20 yr warranty.
Dimensional: raised profile, 25-30 yr warranty
Laminated: most expensive, 2 shingles bonded together to present a more raised profile. 35+ yr warranty. (framing issues may be present)
How are shingles installed?
Attached with roofing nails at least 3/4” into the sheathing. Nail location is important.
What is lap cement and flashing cement used for?
Flashing cement is thicker consistency and intended for vertical surfaces.
Lap cement is thinner and intended to bond shingles together.
