Introduction

A

Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ tells the story of two “star-crossed lovers” from feuding families in Verona. Romeo’s flaw of impetuosity proves destructive. His impulsive response to love and his reactions after he is banished contribute to both his and Juliet’s tragic deaths.

Fickleness - Conflict - Reference to question

A

Romeo allowing his emotions to control him is a recurring problem throughout the play. Here Romeo’s weakness is his temper; he knows that if he kills Tybalt he will be banished or die. It seems his love for Juliet is weaker here than his desire to violently avenge his friend.

Conclusion

A

In conclusion Romeo is characterised by Shakespeare as a passionate young man, who fails to heed the Friar’s advice. It is when that intense emotion compels him to reckless behaviour that it becomes a flaw. There are many reasons that contributed to Romeo and Juliet’s death, but his impetuous behaviour is key to them only being able to be reunited in death.
