Act 1 Scene 1: Sunday Morning
The street fight. Rosaline has rejected Romeo’s advances.
Act 1 Scene 2: Sunday Evening
Sunday Evening:
- Paris asks Capulet if he can marry Juliet, Capulet’s daughter.
- Romeo and Benvolio (Montague family) decide to go to the Capulets’ masked ball.
Act 1 Scene 3: Sunday Evening:
Lady Capulet talks to Juliet about marriage and suggests Paris would make a good match for her.
Juliet agrees to consider Paris, but only if her parents approve.
Act 1 Scene 4: Sunday Evening:
On their way to the feast, Mercutio tries to cheer up Romeo and encourage him to join in and dance.
Romeo speaks of dream he has had, prompting Mercutio to talk of Queen Mab the fairy queen
Act 1 Scene 5: Sunday Evening
Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time and fall in love instantly. Juliet discovers that Romeo is a Montague and therefore her enemy.
Act 2 Prologue
Reminds the audience that Romeo has found real love with Juliet and that she returns his love.
Act 2 Scene 1: Sunday Night
Benvolio and Mercutio are looking for Romeo after the ball. They are still convinced he’s in love with Rosaline.
Act 2 Scene 2: Sunday Night:
The balcony scene. Romeo climbs into the garden of Juliet’s house and they talk about their love for one another.
Act 2 Scene 3: Monday daybreak:
Romeo asks Friar Laurence to marry him and Juliet.
Act 2 Scene 4: Monday Morning:
Romeo hears that Tybalt wants a fight. He sends a message to Juliet asking her to come to the Friar’s cell that afternoon.
Act 2 Scene 5 and 6: Monday Noon:
Juliet hurries to meet Romeo at Friar Laurence’s cell. The lovers leave with the Friar for a secret wedding.
Act 3 Scene 1: Monday Afternoon:
Tybalt fights with and kills Mercutio and Romeo kills Tybalt in revenge. The Prince banishes Romeo from Verona with the threat of death if he remains.
Act 3 Scene 2: Monday afternoon:
While waiting for Romeo, Juliet learns of Tybalt’s death. She is desperate to see Romeo and the Nurse promises to find him.
Act 3 Scene 3: Monday Evening:
Romeo tries to kill himself, but is prevented by the Friar. The Friar advises Romeo to spend the night with Juliet before leaving for exile in Mantua.
Act 3 Scene 4: Monday Evening:
Without consulting her, Capulet tells Paris he can marry Juliet.
