Q

Write down analysis for “What draw and talk of peace? I hate the word peace as I hate hell all Montagues have it at thee” (Character Tybalt 1) ?

A
  • This Phrase Highlights Tybalt as he Rebukes Benvolio for Trying to break to brawl between the Capulets and Montague’s. This Phrase uses a oxymoron. The oxymoron portrays Tybalt as a violent aggressor against Benvolio’s status as a peacemaker. Additionally this quote uses a religious imagery. this shows that Tybalt shows a misplaced religious anger by introducing the word “hell” alongside the name of Montague. In addition in the Elizabethan era violence was connected to men sense of honour and violence was sense as a way for individuals to defend their family and good names but a modern audience would see aggression unnecessary.

Q

Write analysis For “Now by the stock and honour of my kin, To Strike him dead I Hold it not a sin” (Tybalt Character 2 )?

A
  • This Phrase Highlights How Shakespeare Makes it clear to the audience that family honour is important to Tybalt. Shakespeare has Tybalt state “Now by the stock and honour of my kin, To strike him dead I hold it not a sin” In other words Tybalt is staring that he thinks it would not be sinful to kill Romeo Because he would be doing it in order to defend the honour of the Capulet family. A Religious Elizabethan audience would have felt that killing someone was the worst sin you could commit, But would perhaps have understood Tybalt’s Motives.
As a man in the Elizabethan era, Tybalt would have been viewed as a coward if he allowed Romeo to mock him in this way. It is not Surprising, Therefore that Tybalt responds to Romeos actions by saying that he wants to fight and kill Him. Perhaps Shakespeare Presents Tybalt in this way in order to challenge ideas about honour and masculinity in the Elizabethan era. If Tybalt had not believed so strongly in Fighting in order to Defend his Honour, Then the first tragic deaths of the play could have been avoided.
