-A long speech by one actor in a play or film
- not dialogue
-does not require a response
-Ex. Queen Mab Speech by Mercutio
Soliloquy
when characters address themselves or the audience while alone on stage
-usually, a speech
-not addressed to anyone in particular
Aside
A remark sometimes a short speech, speaking to one character/the audience which is supposed to be inaudible to other characters.
Motif
something that appears/shows up over and over again
-repeats
Allusion
an indirect or passing reference to something commonly known.
-Ex. Religion, Greek.
Paradox
A statement that appears to be contradictory, but upon reflection it makes sense.
Dramatic irony
When the audience knows something that the character doesn’t
