Q

What is dramatic irony? What is an example of dramatic irony in Romeo and Juliet?

A

Dramatic irony is when the audience knows something that the characters in the story don’t. An example of this is when we know that Juliet isn’t actually dead but Romeo thinks that she is so he kills himself.

Q

After Romeo’s banishment, what plan does the friar come up with to help the young lovers?

A

The Friar comes up with the plan to give Juliet a vial of something that will make her look dead. The Friar will send a letter to Romeo telling him the plan and to come back. Juliet will go back and tell her parents that she will marry Paris. The night before her wedding she will drink the vial. The next morning her family will find her and presume that she is dead. They will call off the wedding and put her in the tomb and prepare for a funeral. Romeo will come back and be there when Juliet wakes up and they will run off to Mantua together.
