Advantages: Lots of territory which could charge taxes in order to make money to spend on the Empire (roads, buildings, parks, bridges, etc). Disadvantages: Could become to large to defend or govern efficiently, could be attacked if not protected well enough.
Constantine
The emperor who reunited the 2 halves of Rome after Diocletian’s reign.
Diocletian
The emperor who divided Rome into 2 empires.
Huns
Barbarians that intruded and attacked Rome.
Goths
Barbarians that intruded and attacked Rome but also the Huns.
Internal problems
Not enough farmers to make food, diseases were spreading, taxes were being raised, communication was difficult.
Justinian
The emperor that ruled Rome in 527-565.
Theodora
Justinian’s wife.
Mosaics
Pictures made from colored glass or pieces of stone.
Latin
The original language people spoke in the Eastern Empire.
Greek
After Justinian’s death, some people in Rome began to speak greek.
