this poem is a big symbolism for life in itself especially because a bird is a predator and prey. Dickinson in most of her poems especially this one conveys the romantic undertone of glorifying the ordinary. Dickinson is going into natures yin and yang characteristics like how it can be cruel but also beautiful. She glorifies this bird and describes its role in nature.

In the poem the raven Poe is showing how one who is grieving can often be disconnected from society and how grief can consume someone. This poem, like most of Poe’s poem shows the undertone of psychological extremes as Poe goes into depth about the lonliness and sadness that the raven is supposed to symbolize. This poem has a very dark and grim tone as this also can show the psychological extremes in the poem.
