Romans final Flashcards
Romans 1
Paul greets the Romans, speaking of his thankfulness for them and his desire to come to them with the gospel. Faith in the gospel is what brings salvation from the wrath of God poured out on those who have turned from him in sin.
Romans 2
God judges all people impartially according to their deeds. They will be judged by the law because it is written in their hearts.
Romans 3
There is no one who is righteous by works of the law and the law brings knowledge of sin. Righteousness comes only by faith in Christ Jesus.
Romans 4
Abraham was counted as righteous before God through his faith in God, and God’s gracious promises came through the righteousness of faith.
Romans 5
God showed his love by sending Christ to die for our sins while we were still his enemies, and now we have peace and reconciliation. Adam’s one sin brought sin and death to all, but Christ’s free gift of grace brings righteousness and life.
Romans 6
We are united to Christ in his death and resurrection and have therefore died to sin and now live for God through Christ. We are set free from our slavery to sin and are now slaves to righteousness.
Romans 7
We have been released from the law, not because it is sinful but because it shows us our sin and need for deliverance from Christ.
Romans 8
We are now free from sin and the flesh and we live and walk by God’s Spirit who dwells in us. The Spirit sustains us through suffering until our ultimate redemption, and we cannot be separated from God’s love.
Romans 9
It is not Jews by birth who are God’s children but those who are his chosen children of the promise. It is dependent on God’s choice as the potter who is destined for destruction and who for mercy.
Romans 10
Salvation is for all without distinction who believe and confess that Jesus is Lord. They believe through hearing the gospel.
Romans 11
God has preserved a remnant of Israel for himself but now he is also grafting in Gentile branches. God brought hardening on Israel so that his mercy might be shown to Gentiles as well.
Romans 12
We are now to live to God by the grace he has given us and in accordance with ways that a child of God should act.
Romans 13
We are to submit to God-given authorities and to fulfill the law by loving one another.
Romans 14
We are not to judge others on matters of conscience, nor are we to cause them to stumble.
Romans 15
We are to please and welcome others, thereby following Christ who is our hope. God has worked through Paul to bring the gospel to the Gentiles, and he plans to visit the Romans after going to Jerusalem.
