Rule # 1 - When a numeral is repeated, its value is repeated
Example: ll = 1 + 1 = 2
Example: XXX = 10 + 10 + 10 = 30
Rule # 2 - A numeral cannot be repeated more than 3 times
Example: XXX = 30
XXXX is not equal to 40
Rule # 3 - V, L and D are NEVER repeated
Example: XXX = 30
VVV is not equal to 15
Rule # 4 - When a smaller numeral is placed before a larger numeral, the smaller numeral is subtracted from the larger numeral
Example: lV = 5 - 1 = 4
Example: XC = 100 - 10 = 90
Rule # 5 - When a smaller numeral is placed after a larger numeral, the smaller numeral is added to the larger numeral
Example: Vl = 5 + 1 = 6
Example: LX = 50 + 10 = 60
Rule # 6 - V, L and D are NEVER subtracted from larger numerals
Example: VL is not equal to 45
Rule # 7 - Never subtract more than 1 numeral
Example: llX is not equal to 8
Example: XXXC is not equal to 70
