Who were the Etruscans?
Indo-European Migrants that settled in the tiber river.
Who was Romulus?
Founded city of Rome in 753 BCE and was first king.
Phases of the Roman government?
The Roman Monarchy: Many of first kings were Etruscans.
Roman Republic: a republican constitution with executive responsibilities to two consuls.
What are consuls?
Elected by an assembly dominated by rich people. (The patricians)
What was the senate?
Aristocrats with a whole bunch of political experience that advised consuls decisions and ratified all the big decisions.
Who was Lucius Cornelius Sulla?
Drive previous dictator (Marius) out of Rome in 83 BCE and had all enemies and threats executed.
Constitution allowed for what in times of crisis?
A dictator to be appointed.
Gaius Marius takes Rome.

Who was Julius Caesar?
Nephew of Marius that came into power after Sulla died. Comes up with the first triumvirate. Appointed himself as dictator forever.
What was the first triumvirate?
Caesar, Pompey the Great, and Julius Caesar are all ruling Rome.
