Roles Of The Brain Flashcards
Hindbrain
A collection of lower level brain structures that include the medulla, pons, and cerebellum
Pons
Sleep, dreaming, waking, control breathing, and coordination of some muscle movements
Medulla
Swallowing, breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, vomiting, salivating, coughing and sneezing
Cerebellum
Coordinates fine muscle movements, regulates posture and balance. Processing of visual, auditory, and tactile sensory info
Recticular formation
Helps screen info to not overload the brain, helps maintain consciousness and regulates arousal
Forebrain
Regulates processes such as thinking, learning, memory of perception, and various aspects of emotion and personality
Hypothalamus
Controls homeostasis, regulates and releases hormones & takes play in hunter, thirst, and sleep
Thalamus
Controls brain sensations, hearing and visuals, sense of smell, and inibility to feel senses when touched
Cerebrum
Responsible for everything we consciously think, feel, and do
