Interpreter
a person who deals with spoken communication between two or more languages
Limited English Proficiency (LEP)
Not speaking or understanding English fluently.
Source Language
The language that an interpreter is translating from. (Language that is being listen to or read)
Systemic
affecting an entire system
Target Language
Language that the interpreter is speaking
Translator
A person who deals with written communication between two or more languages
Register
to the level complexity and style of language use
Linguistic Barrier
Difference in spoken language
Conduit
Repeats what is said in the target Language without adding, omitting, editing, or polishing any part of the message. (default role)
Barrier of Register
Difference in level of language use
Clarifier
checks for understanding; may ask the provider to lower the register; makes words pictures of terms that have no linguistic equialent

Differences in beliefs around health and illness
