Business Sponsor

- Most senior project-level business role.
- Project champion, committed to project from beginning to end.
- Responsible for the Business Case and project budget, as well as empowering roles. Must have power to make financial and business decisions.
Business Visionary

- Helps ensure the project has a clear, singular vision
- More active on day-to-day level than BS.
- Responsible for interpreting the needs of the BS and communicating to the SDT as well as ensuring business needs represented in Business Case.
Technical Coordinator
Category: Project Level
Interest: Solution
- Projects technical authority, ensures solution/technical roles work consistently, coherently and meet desired technical standards.
- Provides glue that holds technical aspects together; advises.
- The “BV” of solution side
Project Manager
Category: Project Level
Interest: Management
- Provides high-level, Agile-style leadership to SDT and manages the working environment in which the solution evolves
- Coordinates high-level management of project, but leaves the detailed level of planning delivery of product to SDT (in line with concept of empowerment)
- Facilitative leadership, not “command and control”
Business Analyst
Category: SDT/Project Level
Interest: Business/Solution
- Facilitates the relationship between business and technical roles and ensures accurate and appropriate decisions are made for Evolving Solution.
- Ensures the Business needs are properly analysed and understood by SDT
Team Leader
Category: SDT
Interest: Management
- For SDT, ensures it functions as a whole and meets objectives
- Works with team to plan to detailed level and coordinate product delivery
- Leadership role, not management, as they are elected by peers, often different people hold position during different phases of the project.
Business Ambassador
Category: SDT
Interest: Business
- Representative of the business in SDT.
- Someone with good, practical knowledge of the business and sufficient seniorirty in order to make empowered decisions on requirements for Evolving Solution
- Significant involvement in creation and prioritisaion of requirements and provides day-to-day detail of requirements during timeboxed development (hence seniority)
Solution Developer/Solution Tester
Category: SDT
Interest: Solution
- SD collaborates with SDT to interpret business requirements and translate them into a solution increment
- ST performs testing throughout project in accordance with agreed strategy.
- Often these roles are merged, depending on size of project
Business Advisor
Category: Supporting
Interest: Business
- Often a peer of Business Ambassador, called upon to provide specific input to solution, certain expertise e.g. legal, regulatory advice
Technical Advisor
Category: Supporting
Interest: Solution
- Supports the team by providing specialist technical input e.g. data security.
Workshop Facilitator
Category: Supporting
Interest: Process
- Responsible for planning, organising and facilitating workshops. Independent from project outcomes. Helps group collaborate and meet predetermined objectives in given timeframe
DSDM Coach
Category: Supporting
Interest: Process
- Helps team members get the most out of the approach.
