Role Play Questions Flashcards
What are the 3 benefits of keeping my maintenance and/or subscription active?
- All product upgrades for the next 12 calendar months.
- Unlimited technical support through email, phone, and the Tableau support site.
- Access to the Customer Portal for license management, license transfers and software downloads.
When is my Tableau maintenance due?
Your maintenance period will be defined on your invoice, but is typically one year from the original purchase date. You will be notified 120 days prior to maintenance expiration with more detailed information, but please contact us at any time for a copy of your next maintenance renewal invoice.
Can I renew for only six months?
You are able to renew your licenses for a minimum length of 12 months, however, a majority of
our customers choose to renew for a period of 36-months
What happens if we are unable to make a decision about the renewal, prior to the
expiration date?
If BBA is unclear about its decision to renew by the time of expiration, I can seek special
approval for a 30-day paid extension. Tableau would issue BBA an invoice in advance of
expiration, providing another 30 days to finalize the details of the full-term renewal.
What is the major difference between Tableau Online and Tableau Server?
Tableau Online is simply a cloud-based version of Tableau Server; we host it so you don’t have
to make a hardware investment or leverage internal IT resources that may already be strained.
What is Tableau’s deployment strategy?
We have a hybrid approach. You can do it on-premise. You can do it in the cloud. You can do it
on a public cloud. We support all of these.
Why should I keep my explorers active when Tableau Public and Reader are free?
Tableau Public is for people who want to share their data with the entire world with no security.
Reader is like the Adobe Reader of data – no centralization, no security, local, offline; just a data
viz file floating around in your email.
If like most organizations security and collaboration are important to you, Tableau Server &
Online are for you. They offer:
• + Security
• + Data governance/single source of truth
• + Live/auto-refreshed data connection
• + Zero footprint – end users access via a web browser
Does this renewal take into account the investment we have made into Salesforce as a whole?
We have factored in BBA’s existing investment with both Tableau and Salesforce. If BBA would like, we now have the ability to renew not just Tableau, but BBA’s wholistic Salesforce footprint in a single transaction to streamline processes and minimize additional procurement
cycles for BBA.
Your maintenance cost seems awful high at 25% of the license fee, other vendors have it between 10-15%; Why is the cost so much? Do you discount?
Tableau invests well above industry average in research and development, and delivers a major release every year as a result.
We currently invest 22% of our revenue in R&D – this amount is actually in excess of our maintenance revenue percent (25% maintenance rates = 20% of total revenue).
In comparison,
SAP averages around 13.5% of revenue on R&D, ORCL around 12.5%, and IBM around 12.1.
Why be concerned with this? Constant innovation and increasing value received.
What happens if I pay my maintenance late? Can I renew my maintenance after it has
expired? Is there a difference between the subscription vs perpetual policy?
We accept late maintenance renewal payments for 6 months from the maintenance expiration date
with a 25% reinstatement fee per license. The maintenance dates will remain contiguous. You will be
reinstating maintenance for 12 months past the expiration date, not the date payment is received. If you
go beyond this 6 month grace period, then you’ll need to purchase a new license to receive the software
or a version upgrade.
You may elect to renew your subscription at any time after expiration, but your access to the licensed
product shall cease following the expiration date unless/until renewed. You are able to reinstate an
expired subscription key 90 days after contract expiration.
For my renewal I have desktop professional, and also Tableau interactors set to expire.
What is the difference between the two products?
Tableau’s fully-featured Desktop offering, Desktop Professional includes the ability to connect to all
supported data sources, including standalone files and databases. With Desktop Professional, in
addition to being able to save packaged workbooks and publish content to Tableau Public, users can also
share their insights securely by publishing content to Tableau Server or Tableau Online. As a Tableau
Server user, you will be able to access up-to-date content and gain quick insights without relying on
static distributed content.
