Occupation
everyday activities that people want to, need to, and are expected to do that occupy their time and bring meaning and purpose to life
Occupational Science
way of thinking to enable understanding of occupation, occupational nature of human persons, relationship of HEALTH and WELL-BEING
What does occupational science include? (6 different concepts)
occupational justice, identity, satisfaction, time use, engagement, and performance
Occupational Therapy
therapeutic use of everyday life occupations with persons, groups, populations for the purpose of enhancing or enabling participation
OT Domain
outline of profession’s purview and establishes knowledge and expertise
What does the OT domain include?
occupations, contexts, performance patterns, performance skills, and client factors
OT Process
describes actions OTs take when providing client-centered occupation-based services
What does the OT process include?
evaluation, intervention, and outcomes
ADL
activities of daily living; activities oriented towards taking care of one’s own body on a daily basis; basic survival and well-being
IADL
instrumental activities of daily living; activities that support daily life outside of the body (within the home and community) that require more complex interactions than ADLs
Health Management
focused on developing, managing, and maintaining routines for health and wellness by engaging in self-care
Rest and Sleep
activities related to obtaining restorative rest and sleep to support healthy, active engagement in other occupations
Education
activities involved in learning and participating in the educational environment
Work
labor or exertion related to the development, production, delivery, or management of objects or services
Play
active engagement in an activity that is intrinsically motivated, internally controlled, and freely chosen and that may include the suspension of reality; participation in exploration, humor, fantasy, risk, contest, and celebrations
