What is the role of the Client?

A

Commissioning: The client or customer creates the demand for the product. This leads to the product being commissioned to be made.
Design: The customer is involved at the Design stage to judge the alternative ideas that the designer products.
Manufacture: The client agrees the final design with the Designer and make and awaits the first prototype.
Evaluation: Customer tests the product to check that it meets the specification of what it is designed to do.

What is the role of the Designer?

A

Commissioning: The designer works closely with the customer and the manufacturer to agree what kind of product is needed and how it might look and be made.
Design: The designer uses the customers needs and his experience to put forward possible designs which may solve the problem.
Manufacture: The designer provides the manufacturer with the agreed final drawings and details of the product to be made.
Evaluation: The designer uses the results of the testing to modify and improve the design and supply these improvement details to the manufacturer to make adjustments.

What is the role of the Maker?

A

Commissioning: The customer and the designer work closely with the manufacturer to decide on the best design and materials/processes to use.
Design: The Maker or manufacturer considers the designs and uses his knowledge and experience with materials and processes to advise the best methods to use.
Manufacture: The manufacturer makes the prototype and sends it for testing and approval by the customer.
Evaluate: Manufacturer adjusts the processes, materials or sizes and re-makes the product for final testing by the customer.
