When is knowing subtypes important?

A

Usually when a patient receives a transfusion the can be given blood only based on main blood group. But when they regularly receive blood transfusions they need more extensively matched blood to prevent the formation of antibodies

A

600 these can include eye colour, hair colour. These tend to travel within Ethnic groups so patients and donors who are from the same ethnic background are more likely to have similar red blood cell antigens
