Ever increasing importance as aggregate in in concrete and roadways.

1. Must be sound (free of cracks)
2. Satisfactory strength
3. Low porosity
4. Chemically unreactive - free of sulphides

Riprap

Consists of coarsely broken fragments of stone that are packed in the beds of water channels to prevent erosion or protective layer on earth embarkment
1. Fresh and not prone to rapid decomposition
