Granite
(Igneous) Contains crystals, is formed slowly beneath the earths surface. E.g. Wicklow, mourne mountains

Igneous) Basalt contains small/no crystals and is formed rapidly on the earths surface. E.g giants causeway

Are formed from the remains of animals and plants and other rocks
Sandstone
Formed from compressed grains of sand. Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Munster mountains
Limestone
Ireland’s most common rock, formed from the compressed remains of sea creatures. Permeable, stratified rock is weathered by rain- May cause fossils
Metamorphic rocks
Formed when other rocks change as a result of great heat or pressure.
