Q

What are igneous rocks?

A

Rocks formed through the solidification and cooling of magma or lava. Magma is a molten rock material that originates deep within the Earth.

There are two main types of igneous rocks:

Intrusive (Plutonic) Igneous Rocks: These rocks form when magma cools slowly beneath the Earth’s surface.

Examples of intrusive rocks include granite and diorite.

Extrusive (Volcanic) Igneous Rocks: These rocks are formed when lava cools rapidly on the Earth’s surface or near the surface.

Examples of extrusive rocks include basalt and pumice.
