Q

What is Magma And what role does it have in the rock cycle?

A

Melted rock deep inside the Earth, it helps recycle rock to form brand new igneous Rocks

Q

What is the difference between mechanical (physical) and chemical weathering, and give examples of each

A

. Mechanical makes rocks smaller without changing the type of rock, chemical changes the rock into a new substance often causing it to become more brittle
Mechanical EX: abrasion, ice & plant wedging, animal burrowing; Chemical EX: oxidation, carbonic acid, hydrolysis, acid rain

Q

What are the 5 factors that affect soil formation, and give a brief description of each

A

time, Parent rock weathers over time getting smaller to support biota that makes soil
topography, Shape of the land with influence the amount of water 7 sunlight that lead to weather & plant growth
biota, Decomposers (bacteria & mushrooms) speed up the weathering process for soil faster
Parent Material, Materials that is uplifted and weathered to form soil
climate, Soil forms faster in warm moist climate and slower in cold dry climates
