Rock Cycle Flashcards
Igneous Rock
Igneous Rocks are rocks from the 3 states of rocks which are Igneous Rocks, Sedimentary Rocks & Metamorphic Rocks. Igneous rocks are made out of magma lava.
Sedimentary Rock
Sedimentary Rocks are rocks from the 3 states of rocks which are Igneous Rocks, Sedimentary Rocks & Metamorphic Rocks. Sedimentary rocks are formed from pre-existing rocks.
Metamorphic Rock
Metamorphic Rocks are rocks from the 3 states of rocks which are Igneous Rocks, Sedimentary Rocks & Metamorphic Rocks. Metamorphic rocks started out as some other type of rock, but have been substantially changed from their original igneous, sedimentary, or earlier metamorphic form.
Crystallization
Crystallization in the rock cycle refers to the formation of rock crystals in cooling magma.
Lithification
Lithification, complex process whereby freshly deposited loose grains of sediment are converted into rock. … The sediment may be compacted by rearrangement of grains under pressure, reducing pore space and driving out interstitial liquid.
Sediment
matter that settles to the bottom of a liquid; dregs.
Deposition
Deposition is the laying down of sediment carried by wind, water, or ice.
Weathering
Weathering describes the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on the surface of the Earth.
Erosion
Erosion is the geological process in which earthen materials are worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water.
