  • drew Scott Supreme Court decision- slaves sues master for freedom based on where he lived- slavery could exist anywhere, nothing can stop it
  • raid of harpers ferry- John brown led slave uprising to abolish by force. Robert e lee captured him- north turned John brown to martyr
