Road Signs Flashcards

1
Q

Speed limit (thickly settled)

A

I know what speed limit signs look like but some communities have a thickly settled speed limit of 25 miles per hour unless otherwise posted so there will signs at every entrance to the town saying thickly settled 25 miles per hour unless posted.

Q

School zones

A

The speed limit near school zones is 20 mph. The sign will say school zone and sometimes it will flash. Keep an eye out for children crossing cross walks or riding bikes, especially at the beginning and end of school days.

Q

Flashing Red Light

A

Same as a stop sign. Come to a complete stop and obey the right of way laws. If there is a white stop line of crosswalk you just stop before that line and don’t enter an intersection until it is your turn to go.

The traffic signal is changing from green to red. You must stop if it is safe but if you are going too fast keep going. If you are already stopped at an intersection or stop sign you may not proceed.

Flashing yellow arrow

A

Allows you to turn in the direction of the arrow where oncoming traffic has a green light as long as there is a break in traffic. Be careful to check if there is an adequate break in traffic and there are no pedestrians before crossing.

Q

Steady green light

A

Go but yield to other vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians. Never block an intersection (no cape cod road block at intersections). You may make a turn as long as there’s enough room for it and if you’re turning left on a steady green you just yield to oncoming traffic.

A

A “protected” turn in the direction of the arrow. Pedestrians and other vehicles should be stopped for red lights. Look for signs saying the lane is only for turns in the direction of the arrow.

Q

A

Yes

23
Q

Pedestrian Laws (not sure if I need these for the permit test so they’re all going on one card)

A

1: use a crosswalk when one is available
2: at crosswalks with pedestrian signals push the button on the pole and wait for the walk signal. If there’s no button a walk signal will show up automatically
3: when the walk signal is shown begin to cross. If the don’t walk is shown while you are already on the cross walk continue to the other side, you still have the right of way.
4: before you cross a roadway stop at the curb and look both ways. Be alert.
