when a person can prove

Circumstances when you can request insurance certificate / DOT test certificate / driving license
a person is driving a motor vehicle on a road OR
reasonable cause to believe they were driving a motor vehicle when it was involved in a crash OR
reasonable cause to believe they have committed an offence when using a motor vehicle on the road
for driving license can also request for a person supervising a learner
what must be produced personally at police station with HORT1 form
driving license within 7 days
insurance - powers under S165A RTA1988
where a vehicle has failed to stop or has driven off, power to seize vehicle within 24 hours. reasonable force can be used and can enter anywhere apart from private dwelling house
When does a vehicle require a DOT test certificate
when vehicle is 3 years from registration
OR
if vehicle used on road prior to registration, 3 years old from manufacture date

dangerous driving and careless driving - carries conditional power of arrest when:
offence is committed within their view
the person does not give their name and address or
produce their driving license
state the police powers for section 1, 2b, 3a and 3zb offences
causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving, causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs and causing death by driving whilst disqualified
silent in relation to arrest, but can arrest when it is in the interests of justice to do so

the person has committed a moving traffic offence OR
the person was involved in a road traffic crash (uniform not required)
