Explain the Reichstag Fire.
The Parliament burnt down on 27th February 1933, and a Communist was caught causing it.
Explain the New Elections.
An election was held on 5th March 1933, meaning the Nazis gained more seats.
Explain the Enabling Act.
Hitler put forth the Enabling Act on March 23rd, 1933. This meant that Hitler had the power to make rules without needing to ask the government.
Explain the Trade Union Ban.
In May 1933, Unions were named and were merged into a German Labour Front.
Explain the âAll Political Parties Bannedâ point.
Next, rival political parties were banned. Properties and funds were confiscated by Nazis.
Explain the âNight of Long Knivesâ.
This was the night when Röhm was arrested alongside other chiefs and shot dead as a threat to Hitler, for wanting to merge the SA and German Army.
Explain the âDeath of Hindenburgâ.
On August 2nd, 1934, President von Hindenburg died (shortly after the Night of Long Knives). Hitler was able to secure his role and combine the role of Chancellor and President.
Explain the âArmy Oathâ.
The army oath meant that each soldier, on August 20th, 1934, had to swear total obedience to Hitler, the âFĂŒhrer of the German peopleâ.
