RNA interference on gene expression Flashcards
1
Q
What is siRNA?
A
A small RNA molecule used to inhibit translation of mRNA
2
Q
How does siRNA operate PT.1?
A
- An enzyme cuts large double-stranded molecules of RNA into smaller sections called siRNA.
- One of the two siRNA strands combine with an enzyme
3
Q
How does siRNA operate PT.2?
A
- the siRNA molecule guides the enzyme to a mRNA molecule via complementary base pairing
- once in position the mRNA cuts the enzyme into smaller sections
4
Q
How does siRNA operate PT.3?
A
- The mRNA is no longer capable of being translated into a polypeptide
- This means means gene has not been expressed
