Q

What is Hydraulic Action?

A

Hydraulic Action is the sheer force of the water hitting against the rock.

Q

What is Abrasion?

A

It is when the rock rubes across the surface across the surface to wear away, just like sandpaper.

Q

What is Solution? (erosion)

A

A solution is when the acid in the water breaks small rocks.

Q

What are the 8 steps for how a waterfall is formed?

A
  1. Waterfalls are often formed where a layer of harder rock overlays a layer of softer rock.
  2. As the river passes over the softer rock, and then the softer rock erodes at a faster rate, forming a step in the river bed.
  3. Due to certain types of erosion (mostly hydraulic action and abrasion), it will make the notch deeper.
  4. A plunge pool is developed.
  5. Eventually, there is no support for the hard rock on top.
  6. Later the hard rock collapses into what is called a plunge pool.
  7. The process repeats and the water retreats.
  8. A gorge is formed by the waterfall retreats.
