Q

Water cycle

A

Water from ocean evaporates into the air. Then the water condenses into water vapour and are held in large containers known as clouds. Eventually the water particles condense to the point where they are too heavy and precipitation occurs. Water then infiltrates the soil and moves through the ground eventually reaching the deeper layers of the soil and reaching ground water/ the water table. That specific process is called percolation. Water is normally transferred via through-flow or groundwater flow. This then leads the water to the river and back out to the sea. If the water does not get infiltrated due to too much water being absorbed, then it will create surface run off and the water will flow off the surface to the river or to the sea if possible. It can also get intercepted by trees and shrubs and this leads to the process transpiration and the water is converted into water vapour eventually. Either way the water always finds its way back to the sea and the water cycle starts again.

Q

Difference between through-flow and groundwater flow

A

Through-flow is water flowing closer to the surface of the land making it easier and quicker for water to flow than groundwater flow.
