River tees Flashcards
How does vegetation differ through the rivers course?
Upper course has more peat, making surrounding areas more saturated. Downstream there is Limestone and Mudstone, causing more runoff as the ground is less penetrable.
How is the river regulated by humans?
Cow green reservoir was built in 1971. It regulates the river by releasing water during dry periods. This water can be abstracted downstream. This is an example of a sustainable water supply.
Impact of peatlands on the river?
Peatland grips drainage channels, which makes land suitable for sheep grazing. Water drains carbon out of the peat. Peat stores water reducing chances of floods.
Human responses to peatlands?
Attempting to block the grips as peat is being eroded and dried out.
