  • The highest ground of the basin is made of igneous rock which is impermeable

How does the rock type affect the river?

A
  • The areas where the rocks are permeable have high rates of infiltration which results in high groundwater stores
  • In the areas made of impermeable rock, lag time is reduced due to the low infiltration rates. As a result, surface runoff increases.
