river Flashcards
define deposition:
when a river looses its energy, it drops any of the material its been carrying
what is a watershed

what is a drainage basin
An area of land drained by a river and its tributries
what is the “mouth” of a river

what is a channel
this is where the river flows
what is the upper course stage of a river?
this is where the river starts. it is often in an upland area. the load (sendiment) is larger because it hasn’t been broken down by erosion.
what is the lower course of a river?
this is where the river ends, the land is flatter, and the river’s load consists of fine sediment due to erosion breaking down the rocks.
define weathering:
the wearing away of rocks and sediment which is caused by snow, rain and other natural causes.
different to erosion which is caused by water and transports rocks
