What is Blood alcohol concentration (BAC)
The level of alcohol in your bloodstream and it is what police test for in road side alcohol breath tests.
Safety strategies to keep safe with alcohol
Be aware of your surroundings, know when you have hade enough (don’t over do it), be responsible with how much alcohol you consume.
What is TAC?
TAC increases awareness about road safety and there goal is to have zero deaths or serious injuries on our roads.
What are the safety features in cars?
Airbags, seatbelts, blind spot monitoring, electric stability control (ESC) and lane departure warning.
What are the road laws?
Mobile phones must not be touched when driving. The driver and passengers in your car must all wear a seatbelt.
What are the consequences of excessive alcohol consumption?
Increases your risk of injury or having an accident. Can lead to poor decisions e.g. more impulsive and aggressive.
What are psychoactive drugs?
Psychoactive drugs are drugs which affect the central nervous system leading to changes in feelings, mood and thinking.
What are the three main types of drugs?
Stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens.
Examples of stimulants.
Caffeine, nicotine and ice/crystal meth.
Examples of depressants.
Alcohol, heroin, GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid).
Examples of hallucinogens.
LSD/acid, mescaline/peyote cactus.
What are the short term and long term effects of stimulants?
Short term effects are more energy and long term effects are anxiety and dependence.
What are the short term and long term effects of depressants?
Short term effects are increase relaxation and long term effects are memory loss and blackouts.
What are the short term and long term effects of hallucinogens?
Short term effects are nausea and long term effects are speech issues and memory loss.
What is worksafe and what do they do?
Worksafe reduces harm in a workplace and improves outcomes for injured workers. They educate and support workplaces to provide a safe environment for workers.
