Four principles of risk management
a. Integrate into all phases of missions and operations
b. Make risk decisions at the appropriate level
c. Accept no unnecessary risk
d. Apply RM cyclically and continuously
Five Steps of RM
a. Identify the hazards
b. Assess the Hazards
c. Develop controls and make risk decisions (Where DD Form 2977 ends)
d. Implement controls
e. Supervise and Evaluate
Risk Management
The process of identifying, assessing and controlling risks arising from operational factors and making decisions that balance risk cost with mission benefits
Risk Tolerance
The level of risk the responsible commander is willing to accept
Control
An Action taken to eliminate a hazard or reduce its risk
Risk Decision
A commander, leader, or individual’s determination to accept or not accept the risks associated with an action he or she will take or direct others to take
Hazard
a condition with the potential to cause injury, illness, or death of personnel; damage to or loss of equipment or property; or mission degradation.
Risk
determined after hazards are identified and analyzed and is presented as a combined expression of loss probability and severity
Approval Authorities
a. EH- First GO in chain of command-
b. H- First O6 in CoC
c. M- First O5 unless formally delegated
d. L- approved by Commander of unit responsible (usually company commander- O4)
